Brian Cheung is a visual artist currently based in Melbourne. His practice is predominantly focused on drawing and painting, with regular forays into illustration, photography and graphic design. Most often employing watercolour, gouache, ink, and pencil, Brian’s work is inspired by natural forms and figurative surrealism, with an emphasis on the passage of time and natural cycles of growth and decay.

What does water mean to our planet and our people?
Water is everything. Carl Sagan put it perfectly when presenting a photo taken by Voyager 1 as it was leaving the Solar System, over 6 billion kilometres away. Aptly named ‘Pale Blue Dot’, Earth shows up as a minute blue speck in the midst of a vast field of inky blackness. Even from such an astronomical distance, the presence of water is a visible and definitive trait of our planet. We simply would not be here in our current state without water.
